SOUR PICKLES

Ingredients

  • pickling cucumbers
  • 1t salt
  • 1T mixed spices
  • small piece alum
  • vinegar

Directions

  1. Wash pickles and soak in water over night.
  2. Place pickles in jars and add 1t salt, 1T mixed spices, small piece alum to each jar.
  3. Fill jar with vinegar and seal.

This is all I have on the recipe. The mixed spices are unspecified. Mama said she didn’t remember sealing sour pickles like dills but I think it should be done, so I heated the jars and the vinegar. Unsealed jars used as new sours, the sealed ones stored longer to be full sour.
